The Fitting Experiment : The Hourglass Dress

Here we are with our second fitting experiment! We’re a group of bloggers (in the future also not bloggers) who make the same item and show you how it looks on different people in different sizes and which alterations we needed to make. We have found a new blogger for our experiment. Next experiment even more people will join!

Anyways this time we decided to make The Hourglass Dress by Made By Runi . Sizing on this dress runs from us 4 to us 28. I made a 20 bust, 24 waist. I kind of botched my first attempt. I was not paying attention and I blended way too low, making it tight on my belly. The dress in the pictures I did do it correct haha.

I still felt something wasn’t right in the bust shoulder area. I shrugged it off until I sewed up something else and the same happend. I stepped on the scale and remeasured myself. Turns out I’m the only 1 on the planet who lost inches during this corona lock down thing. So next time I’ll be making a us 18 bust. Ah well we live and learn and it’s totally still wearable. But let this be a lesson….measure twice …cut once 😉 .

The pattern has a lot of options, I made the flared version, you’ll see some of the other bloggers did the fitted version. You can color block , or not. I like to color block, cause that makes this dress a great scrap buster. I somehow always end up with long narrow scraps and they are perfect for this! So you can get another make out of the scraps from that pretty fabric you don’t know what to do with!

I also really like that little detail on the shoulders. It breaks up the shoulders a bit. It’s not a difficult sew and it’s done fairly quickly. I will keep this pattern at hand to bust more scraps in the future for sure! Also check out the other bloggers! They look great! 🙂

The Aviator Jumpsuit

Yikes! It’s a jumpsuit in a woven! I admit it , I was scared to start this one. I’d not trust to many other designers other then Wardrobe By Me to make this from haha. This is the Aviator Jumpsuit. It features a whopping 6 pockets. One on each leg, 2 breast pockets and 2 inseam pockets. It’s a pocket frenzy! 


It has quite a few options, sleeved, sleeveless and long inseam or shorts. You can also chose between 2 neckline options, round or v-shaped. I went for long pants, sleeves and the round neckline. I also used all pockets, cause pockets! I had to shorten the legs by about 2 inch and the sleeves by about 2.5 inch. short legs, short arms, the struggle is real. I made a size 22 bust, 24 waist, 18 hips. The pattern runs from 0-24.


The fit is great. I think I could shorten the trunk a bit but I kind of like it as is. I’ll not lie to you this is not a quick sew, nor is it very easy, but the return you get is amazing! The instructions are very clear tho, so you’ll get a lot of help there. I used a viscose/linnen blend. The jumpsuit in this print has an 80’s vibe, which I rly love. I’ll wear this loads!

Yikes! Een jumpsuit in een niet stretchstof! Ik geef grif toe, ik was serieus bang om met deze te starten. Ik zou niet veel andere ontwerpers dan  Wardrobe By Me  vertrouwen om hieraan te beginnen haha. Dit is de Aviator Jumpsuit. Het heeft maar liefst 6 zakken! 1 op elk been, 2 borstzakken en 2 zakken in de zijnaad. Het is een zakken frenzy!


Het patroon heeft heel wat opties, met mouwen, zonder mouwen, lange broek, short, een ronde nek lijn of een v- nek lijn. Ik koos de lange broek, mouwen en ronde nek lijn en uiteraard…ALLE zakken, want zakken! Ik moest de broekspijpen inkorten met 5 cm en de mouwen met 6 cm. Korte armen en benen…the struggle is real. Ik maakte maat 22 buste, 24 taille, 18 benen. De maten lopen van 0 tot 24.


The pasvorm is geweldig. Ik denk dat ik het lijfje nog een beetje zou kunnen inkorten een volgende keer, maar ik vind het eigenlijk gewoon leuk hoe het is nu. Ik zal niet liegen, dit is geen rap klaar project en heel makkelijk is het ook niet, maar je krijgt er dan wel iets cools voor terug! De instructies zijn heel duidelijk, dus je krijgt daar wel veel hulp. Ik gebruikte een viscose/linnen mix. De print van de jumpsuit maakt het een beetje neigen naar de jaren 80, maar dat vind ik net leuk. Ik ga dit zo veel dragen!

Key West Bikini, Tank and Dress

Those cute nighties in fancy lingeriestores are so so expensive and often not in my size, so I’ve been wanting to make them myself. I saw this pattern, The Key West by 5outof4 , and I was thinking to myself hey that’ll be a cute nightie! So I printed and went for it. I used stretch lace for the dress and cotton jersey for the bra part. I thought I would have to do some hacking, but I didn’t have too. Instructions to make a dress with a bra are included! Woop.


Sizing runs from xxs to 5xl and a Full Bust Adjustment pattern piece is included. I made a xl fba bust and a 2xl waist and hips. There’s a lot of options with this pattern, going from a bikini to a dress. You can chose a keyhole in the front or not and you can choose 4 or 6 loops in the back. 


Construction isn’t insanely difficult and the tutorial is really extensive and very clear. I’d say a confident beginner can get this done.  Now I’m going to have to buy more stretch lace and maybe stretch satin so I can make 1 for every night of the week! 😀

Die mooi nachtkleedjes in lingerie boetiekjes zijn zo zo duur en vaak niet in mijn maat, dus ik wilde dat al langer zelf maken. Ik zag dit patroon, The Key West van 5outof4 , en ik dacht bij mezelf hey dat zou wel is een leuk nachtkleed kunnen worden. Ik ging aan het printen en aan de slag. Voor de jurk gebruikte ik stretch kant en voor de bh, katoen tricot. Ik moest niets aan het patroon veranderen, instructies voor de jurk met bh zitten erbij! Woop. 


Maten lopen van xxs tot 5xl en een patroondeel voor een volle buste aanpassing is er ook bij. Ik maakte een xl met die aanpassing en een 2xl taille en heupen. Er zijn heel wat opties, gaande van een bikini tot een jurk. Je kan ook kiezen voor een keyhole vooraan of niet en je kan kiezen tussen 4 of 6 lusjes achteraan. 


Het is niet zo heel moeilijk om te maken en de instructies zijn heel duidelijk. Ik zou zeggen dat een beginner met wat ervaring erin moet lukken. Nu ga ik meer stretch kant en miss stretch satijn moeten kopen zodat ik er 1 kan maken voor elke nacht van de week :D.

Front Button Skirt

It’s been a long time again! I’m so sorry, I will try to blog a lot more from now on. The world on lock down didn’t inspire me to sew more then mouth masks, so I’m happy to be picking up my normal routine again slowly! So let’s start of with the new Front Button Skirt by Wardrobe By Me . It’s a woven skirt with many options and it buttons up in the front (who could have guessed that? haha) I used a very lightweight denim and I made size 24. (sizing runs from 0 to 24)


There’s a lot of options. 2 lengths, I chose the shortest. you can also add a flounce to the bottom, which is fun too. There’s a lot of pockets! You can chose inseam pockets (which I did) and patch pockets (which I did too!). The fit is great and construction is fairly easy. I’d say an advance beginner with some dedication can manage to make this. 🙂


I paired it with the Sille Blouse , my absolute favorite blouse by WBM. This will become a well used outfit this summer I’m sure. The skirt is on sale till 05/29/2020. I’m sure it will become a favorite of yours too. I’m going to make a long one with a flounce too!

Het is weeral super lang geleden! Het spijt me, ik ga echt proberen om meer te bloggen vanaf nu, maar de lock down inspireerde me niet bepaald om iets anders te naaien dan mondmaskers, dus ik ben heel blij dat ik stilaan weer in mijn normale ritme ben beland! Laten we beginnen met de nieuwe Front Button Skirt van Wardrobe By Me . Het is een patroon voor geweven stoffen met heel wat opties en knopen vooraan. Ik gebruikte een heel dunne jeansstof en ik maakte maat 54 (maten lopen van 30 tot 54) 


Er zijn heel wat opties. 2 lengtes, ik koos de kortste. Je can ook een ‘flounce’ (ik heb geen idee hoe ik dat in het Nederlands moet noemen) toevoegen onderaan, deze is ook leuk. Er zijn ook veel zakken! Je kan er in de zijnaad maken (gedaan) en 2 zakken vooraan op de rok (ook gedaan). De pasvorm is super en hij is redelijk makkelijk om te maken. Ik zou zeggen dat een gevorderde beginner met wat toewijding hierin moet lukken. 🙂 


Ik deed er de Sille Blouse bij aan, mijn favo blouse van WBM. Dit wordt een veel gedragen outfit deze zomer denk ik. De rok is in sale tot 29/05/2020. Ik ga nog zeker een lange maken met de flounce!

Sabrina Slims

This is so exciting. A few of us blogger started a fun thing, The Fitting Experiment. We got together with a group of people with completely different body types and sizes. We will all be making the same pattern, so you all can see it on different sizes and bodies. We are still looking to expand the group with more diverse people, so feel free to drop me an email if you are interested in joining us! Our first pattern was kindly sponsored by Love Notions.  We made the Sabrina Slims . It’s a slim fit pair of pull on pants, with a ton load of options. I made the plain version with front pockets, you can add back pockets, there’s also a version with a seam in the front and a slit at the ankle, many options! I made a size 24 waist, 26 hips, 22 sight, 20 calf and I used ponte.

When it was just done it was way too big on my thighs, it’s not an uncommon thing for me, my legs are slimmer then the rest of me and fitting them can be a challenge. I ended up putting them on inside out and pinning out the excess. That helped a ton, but I’m going to need to do a full tummy adjustment on the next pair. I wish I had had time to try that and make another pair, but I got sick and I ended up running out of time. They are not bad at all for a first muslin tho! The pattern comes with a great instruction booklet for fitting pants, so you can use that when you run into fitting issues! A great resource.

Rachel Dress & Top

I stumbled upon this dress and I just had to make one. It’s the Rachel Dress by Jalie Patterns . I love how it’s different from anything else out there. A tie thingy is always fun in my book, so I chose to do the option with the long ties. You can also pick shorter ties or no ties at all. There’s a version with cut on capped sleeves and a sleeved version, which I made. You can make it into a top or a dress. There’s a lot of options!

I made a DD bust and a FF waist and GG hips. Sizing runs from girls to women. GG, the hipsize I made is the biggest size. Did you see the girl’s mentioned? Twinning is an option! 😉  I really wanted it to be red and I had this red cotton jersey in my stash so I decided to use that.  I really love the fit and how clever the pattern pieces are. It’s a very easy sew, it looks way harder then it is! 🙂

I already have a request from my bff to make her a black one and I’m going to need a sleeveless one for summer, so this will not be the last time Rachel and I work together I think. 😀

Ik kwam deze jurk toevallig tegen en ik moest die direct maken. Het is de Rachel Dress van Jalie Patterns . Het is zo leuk, omdat het heel anders is dan alles anders dat je in pdf-en vindt. Een lint is altijd leuk, dus ik koos voor de lange linten. Je kan ook korte linten kiezen of helemaal geen. Er is een versie met mouwen, die ik maakte en een mouwloze versie met een aangeknipte kap mouw. Je kan er een jurk van maken en een top, er zijn dus veel opties!

Ik maakte een DD buste en FF taille en GG heupen. Maten lopen van meisjes tot dames. GG is de grootste heupmaat. Gezien dat het ook voor meisjes kan? Twinning is dus een optie ;). Ik wilde heel graag een rode jurk en ik vond katoen tricot in mijn voorraad, dus dat is hem geworden. De pasvorm is top en de patroondelen zijn super slim gevonden. Het is een heel gemakkelijke jurk, al lijkt het heel ingewikkeld. Het is echt niet moeilijk!

Mijn bff diende al een verzoek in om een zwarte voor haar te maken en ik wil nog een mouwloze voor de zomer, dit zal dus niet de laatste keer zijn dat ik samenwerk met Rachel :D.

Breton T-Shirt and Classic T-Shirt

So I can’t photograph black fabric properly. You’ll have to do with crap pics of that shirt haha. Anyways these are The Breton T-Shirt (left pic) and The Classic T-Shirt (right pic.), both new patterns by Wardrobe By Me . Sizes on both run from 2xs to 3xl. I made a m for both. I used cotton jersey for both.

The Classic T-Shirt is a classically T Shaped shirt with a relaxed fit. Ideal for a staple and a very quick easy sew. This is beginner friendly for sure. It’s the ideal pattern to make and give as a gift imo. It has a crew neckline and short sleeves. You’ll make a stack of these over the years I’m sure. I will too!

The Breton T-Shirt has long set in sleeves and the boat neckline is super easy, you just fold over and hem. This one is also totally beginner friendly and also a very quick sew. The fit is a little more fitting then the Classic T-Shirt.

Blijkbaar kan ik zwarte stof niet fotograferen, dus je zult het helaas moeten doen met crappy foto’s van dat shirt haha. Iig dit is The Breton T-Shirt (rechtse foto) en The Classic T-Shirt (linkse foto), beide nieuwe patronen van Wardrobe By Me . De maten lopen bij beide van 2xs tot 3xl. Ik maakte een m voor beide. Katoen tricot was mijn keuze voor beide.

Het Classic T-Shirt is een klassiek T-vormig shirt met een losse pasvorm. Ideaal om een hele stapel van te maken. Het is een makkelijk patroon en snel klaar. Absoluut beginner vriendelijk. Het is ook het ideale patroon om te maken en kado te geven imo. Het heeft een crew neklijn en korte mouwen. Je maakt vast een hele hoop van deze over de jaren en ik ook!

Het Breton T-Shirt heeft lange mouwen die ingezet zijn op het lijfje. De boat neklijn is super makkelijk, je vouwt gewoon om een zoomt. Deze is dus ook zeker beginner vriendelijk en ook heel snel klaar. De pasvorm is iets aansluitender dan het Classic T-Shirt.

The Sille Blouse

I took a bit of a sewing break, one might say I lost my sewjo there for a while :o. I found it back and I dove in with the new Sille Blouse by Wardrobe By me.  I’m always a bit nervous sewing a woven for myself, it’s a bit scary if it’ll fit all the curves, but with WBM I know it’s a pretty safe bet. I am getting over my buttonhole phobia, so there’s that.

The Sille blouse features 2 views, 1 long sleeved one with a rounded collar and a short sleeved version with a squared collar. I made the latter. I love how it has dropped shoulders, I was looking for this exact pattern basically last summer. Happy I can wear it coming summer! 🙂 I made a size 22 bust, 24 waist. Fit is pretty much spot on. Sizing runs from 0 to 24.

I got the fabric out of a sale bin, so I don’t know what it is exactly. I’m guessing rayon?? You definitely want to use a nice flowy fabric. I also really want to make one in a see through chiffon to wear a tank under. That’ll be fun too imo. It’s a rather quick sew for a woven button up and not insanely difficult. I’d say adventurous beginner level :).

Ik nam een beetje een naai pauze, ik was even mijn sewjo kwijt :o. Ik vond hem echter recent terug en ik dook weer achter de machine voor de nieuwe Sille Blouse van Wardrobe By me.  Ik heb altijd een beetje een nerveusje als ik aan een project zonder stretch begin voor mezelf, altijd een beetje eng of alle curves wel gaan passen, maar met WBM is het nooit echt een heel wilde gok, de patronen zijn altijd weer top. Ook geraak ik stilaan over mijn knoopsgaten fobie, dus dat is ook al iets.

De Sille blouse heeft 2 versies, 1 met lange mouwen en afgeronde kraag en 1 met korte mouwen en een vierkante kraag. Ik maakte de laatste. Ik vind het super leuk dat het een dolman is, vorige zomer zocht ik me een breuk naar , tja eigenlijk exact dit patroon, dus ik ben helemaal blij dat ik het heb voor de volgende zomer. Ik maakte maat 22 buste, 24 taille en heupen. De pasvorm is perfect. Maten lopen van 0 tot 24.

De stof komt van de koopjeshoek in de Stoffenverkoop in Kapellen, dus ik weet niet zo goed wat het exact is. Viscose misschien?? Je wil iig een heel soepel vallend stofje voor dit patroon. Ik plan nog een versie met een doorzichtige chiffon, dan kan ik dat dragen met een tank top onder, lijkt me helemaal leuk.Het is een vrij snel project voor een blouse en niet super moeilijk. Ik zou zeggen voor een gevorderde beginner.

Apollo hoodie and Lakeside joggers

Not 1 but 2 new patterns for men by Sinclair Patterns just came out ! The Lakeside joggers are made out of knit , semi fit at the hips and slim fit at the calves. I think they look great and according to my better half they are comfy too! I used french terry for them and ribbing for the cuffs and waistband. Construction is easy and as usual there’s different heights included in the pattern! I chose not do to back pockets, but they are included if you do want them.  I made a us36 tall, size run from us34 to us52 .

The Apollo hoodie is so awesome. Lots of color blocking options, a huge front pocket ( which was a big selling point for my husband haha) and of course a nice hood. The fit is semi fitted and is great. Construction isn’t hard, the explanation of the pocket is great, you can do this :). I chose french terry again for this one. I made a us36 reg. . Sizing runs from us34 to us52 and again also here different heights included! Due to the color blocking you can get very creative with this one or use up left overs to use as accents! I really like how you can make a truly unique hoodie.

Sinclair Patterns bracht niet 1, maar 2 patronen uit voor mannen! The Lakeside joggers zijn gemaakt uit een stretchstof, half aansluitend op de heupen en aansluitend aan de kuiten. Ik vind ze er echt heel leuk uit zien en volgens mijn wederhelft zijn ze ook heel comfortabel! I gebruikte french terry en boordstof voor de boordjes en tailleband. Ze zijn helemaal niet moeilijk om te maken en zoals gewoonlijk bij sinclair zijn er ook weer verschillende lengtematen! Ik koos ervoor om geen achterzakken te gebruiken, ze zitten wel bij het patroon als je ze wel wil. Ik maakte een us36, het patroon loopt van us36 tot us52.

The Apollo hoodie is helemaal geweldig. Superveel mogelijkheden om te color blocken, een reusachtig grote zak vooraan (een groot pluspunt volgens mijn man) en uiteraard een leuke kap. De pasvorm is half aansluitend en het past perfect. Hij is niet super moeilijk om te maken en hoe je de zak moet doen is heel goed uitgelegd, dus het lukt je vast! 🙂 Ik koos ook hier voor french terry. Ik maakte een us36 reg. Maten lopen van us34 tot us52, ook hier zijn er weer lengtematen inclusief ! Door alle color blocking mogelijkheden kan je lekker crea bea zijn of zelfs dat mooie restje erin verwerken als accent! Super tof dat je echt een unieke hoodie kan maken.

Vlechten van Mevrouw Jett

Ik mocht nog is aan de slag met een stofje van Mevrouw Jett ! Een fluo print, daar moest ik totaal niet over nadenken :D.  De stof is organisch katoen en gedrukt in Portugal en heeft het oeko -tex keurlabel. Ik heb ze uiteraard voor gewassen voor ik ze gebruikte en ze blijft mooi! Toch vaak een dingetje als er veel zwart in zit he. Het is een stevige katoen tricot met goeie recovery.

Ik wilde al lang de December Dress van George & Ginger en dit leek me er de ideale stof voor. Wijd en lang genoeg om de mooie print te laten zien. Ik vind hem zo zo leuk geworden, echt de perfecte combo deze stof en dit patroon. Ik denk dat ik dit heeeeeeeeeeeeel vaak ga dragen!

Mevrouw Jett doet ook mee met black friday! -15% tot en met zondag 1/12/19 op alle stoffen met de code: “mevrouwjettbf”. Neem zeker is een kijkje!  De stof komt trouwens in 3 kleurvarianten. Er is nog zwart wit en zwart groen. Ook allebei super mooi, maar ik kan geen nee zeggen tegen roze he 😉
