Sweet Tea

Swing Dresses are awesome, they are quick to make, flattering and fun. Petite Stitchery & Co just released The Sweet Tea. A swing top, tunic and dress. It features a split sleeve with a cute bow, there’s also a simple sleeve if you prefer. I made a sixe 1x, sizing runs from xxs to 3x. I really like this new trend of split sleeves, it’s such a fun detail and the cold shoulderthing was getting a bit old, so I’m on board for a few summers of this trend 😉

I made the tunic length with the high/low hem and the long sleeves. I used a thin cl. Don’t use fabrics too heavy or stiff for a swing dress , it’ll fall boxy instead of flowy if you do. The fit in this pattern is great. I really love everything about it. The instructions are clear and it really is a quick sew. The sleeve is a bit tricky, but I think a confident beginner could get this done.

The pattern is also available for girls so you can rock it with your girls! 😀 I also feel it’s very flattering on most body types. So this one really is for all of us! 🙂 I for one will be making more! 😀

I left my glasses off for this shoot. I’m totally weirded out by that fact.  So this will be a rare 1 time thing, cause I firstly couldn’t see a thing. My glasses change to sunglasses in the sun and my eyes were like omfg sunlight…it buuuuuuuurns. lol So keeping my eyes open was like an uphill battle. 2nd I really like my glasses, over the past 30 years they have become part of me and I feel way better with them on. Funny, as a teen I hated them, now they are my security blanket. I’m just gonne say 3th, so Sequoia Bond knows I can get it right and say 3th and not 3rd! I do listen to her spelling and grammar lessons 😉 .

Swing jurken zijn geweldig, snel om te maken, flatterend en leuk. Petite Stitchery & Co bracht net De Sweet Tea uit. Een swing top, tuniek en jurk. Het heeft een leuke mouwsplit met een schattige strik, een super leuk detail! Heel het blote schouder gedoe is zo een beetje saai aan het worden, dus ik ben klaar voor een paar zomers deze trend 😉

Ik maakte de tunieklengte met de hoog/laag zoom en de lange mouwen.Ik gebruikte een dunne, soepele katoen tricot. gebruik geen zware of stijvere stoffen voor een swingdress of dat valt helemaal niet mooi. De pasvorm van dit patroon is super. Ik vind er echt alles leuk aan. De instructies zijn duidelijk en het is een heel snel klaar project. De mouw is even nadenken, maar het lijkt mij dat een beginner met durf dit moet kunnen maken.

Het patroon is er ook voor meisjes dus je kan het samen “rocken” met je meisjes! 😀 Ik vind deze echt ideaal voor alle lichaamstypes. Dit is echt eentje voor iedereen!:) Ik ga er alvast meer maken! 😀

Ik liet mijn bril is opzij liggen voor deze shoot. Zooo raar, ik ben er helemaal “weirded out” van. Dus het zal bij deze ene gelegenheid blijven , want allereerst zag ik niks, omdat mijn glazen donker kleuren in de zon en ik dus totaal geen direct zonlicht gewend ben….ARGH zooooo licht! lol. Dus mijn ogen open houden was een helse strijd. Ten tweede ik hou ondertussen echt van mijn bril, over de laatste 30 jaar zijn ze een stuk van mij geworden en ik voel me beter met mijn bril op. Grappig eigenlijk, want als puber haatte ik die bril zo haha.

It’s Gonna be May blog Tour

I get to be part of the It’s Gonna by May Blog Tour! Make sure to also check out the other ladies! Spring is here and that calls for a spring wardrobe! I decided to make the Juliet to go with my Sundance skirt. It’s a leotard, so no weird pulling from tucking your shirt in your skirt. I didn’t own one since way back in the 80’s/90’s and I was intrigued. Sizing runs from xxs to 3x. I made a 1x.

One has to keep their “girth” in mind tho. What’s a “girth”? Rigth, that’s what I was thinking at first too. You basically need to know how long your upper body is. You measure from your shoulders, through your legs, back up to your shoulder. You really really need to do this to ensure the leotard isn’t too short or too long. I had to add 4 inches in total (2 front, 2 Back).

I like the low back, since I can show off my pretty bra ;). Heck who am I kidding, nobody ever really sees my back. It’s all hair. I need to find clips that’ll actually hold that bunch of hair! I also cut the swayback option in the back, that’s why it has a seam. it does help a lot with wrinkling there tho, so I’m happy I did :).

Ik mag mee doen met de It’s Gonna by May Blog Tour! Neem ook zeker een kijkje bij de andere dames! Lente komt eraan (allez hier in België is de zomer er al vandaag)! Iig dat feit heeft nieuwe kleding nodig toch. Ik besliste om de Juliet te maken voor op mijn Sundance rok. Het is een “body” (zo noemden wij dat vroeger toch), dus geen raar getrek van je bloes dat in je rok zit. Ik heb er geen meer gehad sinds de jaren ’80 ’90 en ik was gefascineerd. De maten lopen van xxs tot 3x. ik maakte een 1x.

Voor dit is je “girth” belangrijk. wat is “girth”? Juist, geen flauw idee in’t nederlands, ik kende het ook niet in’t engels lol. Je hebt de maat nodig van je schouder, tussen je benen door weer naar je schouder. Je hebt deze maat nodig zodat je zeker bent dat hij niet te lang of te kort is. Ik zelf moest 10 cm toevoegen, 5 vooraan en 5 achteraan.

Ik vind de lage rug erg tof, dan kan ik is uitpakken met mijn mooie beha’s ;). Allez ja, ‘t is niet dat je dat ooit ziet, want daar zit altijd haar over. Ik moet echt is spelden vinden waar dat pak haar effectief in past! Ik maakte de swayback (holle rug) optie, vandaar de naad middenachter. Het helpt met de extra stof die je anders wel is krijgt in je lage rug, dus ik ben blij dat ik het heb gebruikt :).

Fit Pants

Hubbie’s turn again for this one! Mamma Can Do It released Fit Pants for men and I got to test it. they will later on also be available for women and girls and are already available for boys too. The men’s come in sizes 29 to 49. Hubbie is wearing a 32. There’s 3 widths to choose from, skinny, straight and wide. These are straight. There’s a faux fly option and the waist has an elastic. There’s  front pockets and optional back pockets.

I used ponte for this and I love how they fall and look. This pattern sews up very fast and your hubbie will love them! Mine normally is a jeans kind of guy, but he does love wearing these! So I accomplished a victory with these ;).  It’s a rather easy sew and the instructions are clear. Fit was spot on for hubbie, I didn’t have to alter a thing!

This is the ideal pattern to sew up some pants for the men in your life. You probably made him a load of tees and sweaters by now, make him some pants too! I’d say they are beginner friendly, so do it! 😀

Het is weer de beurt aan mijn man! Mamma Can Do It bracht de Fit Pants voor mannen uit en ik mocht testen. Ze zullen later ook beschikbaar zijn voor vrouwen en meisjes en ze zijn nu ook al beschikbaar voor jongens. De mannen versie komt in maten 29 tot 49. Mijn man draagt een 32. Er zijn 3 opties voor de broekspijpen, skinny, recht en wijd. Deze zijn de rechte. Er is een optie voor een sier gulp en de taille heeft een elastiek. Er zijn ook zakken vooraan en optionele achterzakken.

Ik maakte deze uit punta en ik vind het heel leuk hoe ze vallen en eruit zien. Dit patroon is snel klaar en je man vindt ze vast ook geweldig! Mijn wederhelft draagt normaal enkel jeans, maar deze vindt hij ook erg leuk. Dus toch een overwinning met dit patroon ;). Het is best makkelijk en de instructies zijn duidelijk. De pasvorm was perfect voor mijn man, ik moest niets veranderen.

Dit is het ideale patroon om ook is iets voor de mannen in je leven te maken. Je maakte vast al shirts en sweaters, maak nu ook is een toffe broek! Ik zou zeggen dat dit ook beginnersvriendelijk is, dus doen! 😀

The Jensen Shirt

The last few weeks I’ve been sewing a lot for my hubbie, so prepare yourself for seeing more of him in the near future ;). Today we’ll go over the new release by Wardrobe By Me.  The Jensen Shirt is a classic button up shirt. It comes in sizes 2XS to 3XL. My other half is wearing a size M. There’s a few options like no pleat or pleat in the back, collar and stand or only the stand, sleeve lengths, … .

I’m quite proud of my pocket and yes yes I know the pattern matching could be better but idc! I stitched that on like a pro and I’m owning it! The instructions are very clear and both hubbie and me like the fit. It’s a classic shirt with which you just can’t go wrong. He’ll need a few more as it’s a great staple item. I made this one in a poplin cotton. The buttons I found in my vintage stash! 😀

The pattern is also available for women, so you can geek out and do a hubbie and me! It’s hard to do here, cause he’s refusing to wear pink with butterflies…lame right! I’m happy I added to my hubbie’s side of the dressing, cause we all know there’s a huge imbalance in our dressing. So I hope Wardrobe By Me keeps it up and makes many many many more patterns for men! 🙂

De laatste weken ben ik veel aan het naaien geweest voor mijn man, dus bereid je maar voor om hem in de nabije toekomst meer te zien. Vandaag aan de beurt, de nieuwe van Wardrobe By Me.  Het Jensen Shirt is een klassiek hemd met knopen. Het is er in de maten 2XS tot 3XL. Mijn wederhelft draagt hier maat M. Er zijn enkele opties zoals een plooi achteraan of niet, een kraag met staander of alleen de staander (noemen we dit zo???), verschillende mouwlengtes, … .

Ik ben best trots op deze zak en jaja ik weet het, het patroon had beter kunnen doorlopen, maar weet je wat? Het boeit me niet, ik heb een prima zak gestikt en ik ben daar trots op! De instructies zijn heel duidelijk en zowel mijn man als ik vinden de pasvorm perfect. Het is een hemd waar je weinig mis mee kan doen. Hij heeft er nog nodig, omdat het de ideale basic is. Ik maakte deze in poplin katoen. De knopen komen uit mijn vintage verzameling.

Het patroon is ook beschikbaar voor vrouwen, dus je kan is gek doen en voor een “man en ik” gaan. Hier is dat nogal moeilijk want hij wil geen roos hemd met vlinders…stom he?! Ik ben iig blij dat ik weer heb toegevoegd aan mijn man z’n kant van de dressing, want echt in balans is de zaak daar niet haha. Dus ik hoop dat  Wardrobe By Me lekker veel mannen patronen blijft maken! 🙂

The Meghan Wrap

Today I’m on your screen talking about The Meghan Wrap Dress by Rebecca Page . This dress just released! It’s a true wrap dress, comes in sizes xxs to 5xl, girl’s sizes and doll’s sizes. I made a 3xl. There’s quite a few different options. I chose the knee length skirt and the short sleeves. there’s midi and maxi length too and different sleeve lengths. I made mine in a thin cl, which wasn’t ideal. I’d suggest fabric with a bit more structure.

So I have to admit I might not have followed fabric suggestion too well for this and this resulted in a bit of a botched neckline during testing. It got added to the instructions how to prevent this, however I’m unsure if I’m going to fix it! I figured out that if you flip it basically like a blazer and flip the collar down instead of up you get a different look, which I kinde like now! So I’m thinking I’m gonna stick with my mistake and embrace it!

I’ve never wore this silhouette before , but I like it! This skirt is close to a pencil skirt and I like how it’s different from the big skirts most wraps have. However the maxi is also a big skirt ;). So you can get 2 completely different looks!

Vandaag verschijn ik op je scherm om te praten over De Meghan Wrap Dress door Rebecca Page . Deze jurk is net uit! Het is een echte overslag jurk, in maten xxs tot 5xl, meisjesmaten en poppenwagen. Ik maakte een 3xl. Er zijn heel wat opties. Ik koos de knie lengte en de korte mouwen. Er is ook nog midi en maxi lengte en verschillende mouwlengtes. Ik maakte mijne in dunne tricot, wat niet ideaal was. Ik zou voorstellen om een stof met wat meer “body” te kiezen.

Ik moet dus toegeven dat ik de stof suggestie niet zo goed heb gelezen for deze en dat resulteerde in een beetje een geknoeide neklijn tijdens het testen. Het is sindsdien ook toegevoegd aan de instructies hoe je dit voorkomt, maar ik ben nu niet meer zo zeker of ik het wel wil fixen! Ik bedacht ineens als je dat nu omslaat zoals bij een vest en de kraag naar beneden legt in plaats van omhoog zet, krijg je een heel andere look, die ik eigenlijk wel leuk vind! Dus nu denk ik erover om gewoon het “fout” te laten en mijn fout te omarmen :).

Ik heb dit silhouet nog nooit gedragen, maar ik vind het leuk! de rok is dichtbij een potlood rok en heel anders dan de grote rokken die overslagjurken meestal hebben. Dit gezegd zijnde, de maxi is hier ook een grote vloeiende rok. Dus je kan 2 totaal verschillende looks maken!

Emmaline Dress (updated)

Bella Sunshine Designs just released Emmaline. A gorgeous dress with a fun chevron on the skirt! I had this fabric hoarded for forever, and the chevron is from a leftover. I figured this would be ideal to match my shoes! haha. Anyways its kinde redundant for me to say, cause BSD always delivers, but the fit in this is awesome, as always it comes with a regular and a FBA bodice piece! Instructions again awesome! This bodice isn’t lined so it’s a tad cooler for summer and an even quicker sew then their other dresses.

The sleeves are gathered which is a cute playful detail. This pattern comes in sizes 0 to 30, I made a 14 FBA bust, 20 waist and skirt. There’s different skirt lengths from peplum to maxi. The maxi is beyond gorgeous too! Such a pretty full skirt! It’s also available for girls!

AND this dress’ patternpieces are again interchangeable with Sahara and Clementine!!! This gives you 156 options! (Son of a friend actually did the math :D). That’s like more dresses then you will ever wear! No hacking, no altering, just mash! I already gave it a go with the one in the next picture, which is a Clementine bodice with an Emmaline skirt.

I love how everything fits together, you’ll end up with so many options if you have all the dress patterns and you can let all your creativity out. These definitely are my go to patterns. And also very important, all of em are very twirl worthy, let’s be honest, it’s important to have a good twirl in your life!

Update: After I posted this I saw so many maxi’s and I’ll admit it I got a bit jealous. I felt I needed one too! So I made one out of this gorgeous fabric from Megan Blue  . I’m so happy I did, I love the maxi even more, the flow, the chevron, it’s perfect! 🙂

Bella Sunshine Designs bracht net Emmaline uit. Een prachtige jurk met een leuk V-detail op de rok! Ik had deze stof al een hele tijd en de V komt uit een rest. Ideale combo voor bij mijn schoenen dacht ik zo. Haha. In ieder geval, het is misschien overbodig dat ik het zeg, want BSD heeft altijd geweldige patronen, maar de pasvorm is wederom perfect. Er is een “normaal” patroondeel voor het lijfje en eentje met FBA. De instructies zijn ook weer uitvoerig. Het lijfje is niet gevoerd dus ‘t is wat aangenamer voor die warme zomerdagen die er hopelijk aankomen en het zit net iets sneller in elkaar dan de vorige jurken.

De mouwen zijn lichtje gerimpeld, wat een leuk, speels detail is. Het patroon komt in de maten o tot 20, ik maakte een 14 FBA buste, 20 taille en rok. Er zijn verschillende roklengtes van peplum tot maxi. De maxi is mooier dan mooi! Zo’n mooi volle rok! Het is ook beschikbaar voor meisjes.

EN deze jurk z’n patroondelen kan je weer prima omwisselen met Clementine en Sahara!!! Dat geeft je 156 opties! (de zoon van een vriendin deed de berekening :D). Dat zijn meer jurken dan je ooit zal dragen! Je hoeft niks aan te passen, niks te prullen, gewoon ander patroondeel nemen en klaar! Ik probeerde het al is uit met de jurk op volgende foto, welke een clementine lijfje is en een Emmaline rok.

Geweldig toch he hoe alles samen kan gemaakt worden, je eindigt met zoveel opties dat je al je creativiteit in deze patronen kwijt kan. Dit zijn echt mijn “go to” patronen. En ook heel belangrijk, ze zijn allemaal “zwier” waardig. laten we eerlijk zijn, het is belangrijk om een leuke draai aan je leven te kunnen geven! 🙂

Update: Nadat ik dit postte, zag ik zoveel maxi’s verschijnen en ik geef toe, ik werd jaloers haha. Ik wilde er ook 1! Dus maar achter de naaimachine met deze mooie stof van  Megan Blue  . Ik ben zo blij dat ik dat heb gedaan, want ik hou van deze maxi nog mee, hoe hij valt, de mooie V, het is perfect!

Macy & Ciara

This is again one way out of my own “thing”. I specifically chose to make these cause I’d never even put on a skirt like this in the store. And I belief one needs to try new things! These are both by Sinclair Patterns .

The top, Macy , I knew I’d like. it’s fitted at the bust and more flowy around the waist. I made a US18 bust, graded to a 20 waist and the regular length. (With sinclair patterns you can choose, petite, regular or tall lengths, very handy imo!) This is a great top for my apple shaped body. The construction is something I’ve never seen before, but quite cunning and neat! This will become one of my staple pieces for sure.

The skirt , Ciara, is a pencil skirt with peplum. I made it in a size 20, regular length. Now here I bumped against the fitting problem I’m gonne have to learn to tackle next. I usually make dresses or big skirts so I haven’t bumped into this issue much up till now. But my legs are smaller than my waist and hips, so I’m gonne have to figure out how one adjusts skirt and pants patterns for this. I did slim it down with this one, but I’m gonne need to learn how to do this straight of the pattern. This skirt is rly cute, but it’s so not me. However when I put it on my hubbie said straight away that I did not make that for myself but for my bff. I offered her the skirt, since I do like it, but I’ll prob. not wear it a lot since I don’t feel me in it haha. She was jumping up and down in joy that she was getting it, so it has found a good home haha. Maybe if I’d make it in a fabric more me and not in black It would be more me…hot pink? 😀 What do you guys think?

I do rly love Sinclair Patterns, their patterns are professional and rumor has it they are expanding their size range, atm it runs from US0 to US22. I’m keeping an eye out for you guys for when the bigger sizes show up :).

Deze is weer eentje dat ik normaal niet zou kiezen, maar ik koos deze toch omdat de rok iets is dat ik nooit nog maar zou aanpassen in een winkel en ik vind dat je af en toe is iets nieuws moet proberen! Deze patronen zijn beide van Sinclair Patterns .

De top, Macy , wist ik dat ik leuk ging vinden. Het is aansluitend aan de buste en losser rond je taille. Ik maakte een US18 buste en een US20 taille en de “regular” lengte. (met Sinclair patterns kan je altijd kiezen uit 3 lengtes, peitite, regular en tall, heel handig !) Dit is een geweldige top voor mijn appel lijf. De constructie is iets dat ik nog nooit had gezien, maar het is heel slim gevonden en heel netjes! Dit wordt vast 1 van mijn basics in mijn kast.

De rok , Ciara, is een potloodrok met een peplum. Ik maakte het in maat US20 , regular lengte. Nu botste ik hier tegen een pasprobleem aan dat ik echt is ga moeten leren oplossen. Ik maak meestal jurken of grotere rokken dus ik ben nog niet zo vaak op dit probleem gebotst. Mijn benen zijn heel wat smaller dan mijn taille en heupen, dus ik ga moeten leren hoe ik een patroon hiervoor aanpas.  Ik heb hem iets versmald, maar ik ga moeten leren hoe ik dat voorspel en voorkom ineens op het patroon. De rok is erg leuk, maar hij is echt niet ikke. Toen ik hem aandeed zei mijn man direct dat ik die helemaal niet voor mezelf heb gemaakt , maar voor mijn bff. Ik heb haar de rok dus maar aangeboden dan, want veel zal ik hem niet dragen, ondanks dat ik hem wel leuk vind, blijft hij toch niet helemaal ikke. Ze sprong echt op en neer door de messenger kader toen ik het vroeg, dus hij heeft een goeie thuis gevonden haha. Misschien moet ik hem is maken in een stofje dat al meer ikke is en niet in het zwart…roze? 😀 Wat denken jullie?

Ik hou echt van Sinclair Patterns, hun patronen zijn heel professioneel en in de wandelgangen wordt gefluisterd dat ze hun matenbereik gaan uitbreiden, op de moment loopt het van maten US tot US22. Ik hou het in de gaten voor jullie ;).
