Key West Bikini, Tank and Dress

Those cute nighties in fancy lingeriestores are so so expensive and often not in my size, so I’ve been wanting to make them myself. I saw this pattern, The Key West by 5outof4 , and I was thinking to myself hey that’ll be a cute nightie! So I printed and went for it. I used stretch lace for the dress and cotton jersey for the bra part. I thought I would have to do some hacking, but I didn’t have too. Instructions to make a dress with a bra are included! Woop.


Sizing runs from xxs to 5xl and a Full Bust Adjustment pattern piece is included. I made a xl fba bust and a 2xl waist and hips. There’s a lot of options with this pattern, going from a bikini to a dress. You can chose a keyhole in the front or not and you can choose 4 or 6 loops in the back. 


Construction isn’t insanely difficult and the tutorial is really extensive and very clear. I’d say a confident beginner can get this done.  Now I’m going to have to buy more stretch lace and maybe stretch satin so I can make 1 for every night of the week! 😀

Die mooi nachtkleedjes in lingerie boetiekjes zijn zo zo duur en vaak niet in mijn maat, dus ik wilde dat al langer zelf maken. Ik zag dit patroon, The Key West van 5outof4 , en ik dacht bij mezelf hey dat zou wel is een leuk nachtkleed kunnen worden. Ik ging aan het printen en aan de slag. Voor de jurk gebruikte ik stretch kant en voor de bh, katoen tricot. Ik moest niets aan het patroon veranderen, instructies voor de jurk met bh zitten erbij! Woop. 


Maten lopen van xxs tot 5xl en een patroondeel voor een volle buste aanpassing is er ook bij. Ik maakte een xl met die aanpassing en een 2xl taille en heupen. Er zijn heel wat opties, gaande van een bikini tot een jurk. Je kan ook kiezen voor een keyhole vooraan of niet en je kan kiezen tussen 4 of 6 lusjes achteraan. 


Het is niet zo heel moeilijk om te maken en de instructies zijn heel duidelijk. Ik zou zeggen dat een beginner met wat ervaring erin moet lukken. Nu ga ik meer stretch kant en miss stretch satijn moeten kopen zodat ik er 1 kan maken voor elke nacht van de week :D.

Layla Dress

I’m really excited about this dress! It’s The Layla Dress by 5outof4 Patterns . It has a knit bodice and a knit or woven pleated skirt. I really love it. The back closes with a cute button pad. and there’s an optional sash, which I used. I made the sleeveless knee length version. There’s  anoption for a sleeve in different lengths and the skirt can also be a maxi!

I made a size 14FBA bust and a 20 waist. No need to do your own FBA, there’s one included if you need it! 🙂 Sizing runs from 2 to 26. Fit is great! On my pics, there’s still wondertape at the waist making it a bit stiff, but that’ll be gone once it’s washed. It also causes some wrinkling. I might have gone way overboard on the wondertape. lol

It’s not a beginner dress , I’d say. The instructions are very good, but I’d not advice making this your very first sewing project ever :D. There’s also a girl’s version, so twinning can be done! 🙂 I can also let you know that I sprayed all the right stuff in all the right places this time, so no anti tigh spray in my hair mishaps! 😀

Ik ben helemaal enthousiast over deze jurk! Het is The Layla Dress van 5outof4 Patterns . Het lijfje is in tricot en de rok kan je kiezen, of tricot, of een gewoven stof. De rok heeft super mooie plooien. De achterkant sluit met een knopenpad. Er is ook een optioneel lint voor rond je taille, welke ik heb gebruikt. Ik maakte de mouwloze versie in knielengte. Er zijn echter wel opties voor een mouw in verschillende lengtes en een maxi rok kan ook !

Ik maakte een 14FBA buste en een 20 taille. je hoeft niet zelf een FBA te doen, dat zit erbij , moest je het nodig hebben! 🙂 Maten lopen van 2 tot 26. De pasvorm is super! Op mijn foto’s is de taille nogal stijf, waardoor het wat gefrommeld is, maar dat komt door de wondertape aan de taille. Ik ben misschien wat te ver gegaan met wondertape lol. Maar dat is na het wassen weer helemaal opgelost 🙂

Ik zou dit patroon niet aanraden aan een beginner. de instructies zijn heel duidelijk, maar ik zou het toch niet aanraden om te doen als je aller eerste projectje :). Er is ook een versie voor meisjes dus twinning is mogelijk! Ik kan ook melden dat ik deze keer alles met de juiste spray hebt gesprayed, dus geen dijenspray in mijn haar! Yay 😀

Jenny Cross Front Tunic

Last up in the cross front type thingies, The Jenny Cross Front Tunic by 5oo4. A semi fitted dolman style cross front thingy :D. If you feel the cleavage is a bit too much, there’s a modesty tank top included too! I made this one out of dbp, which actually I don’t prefer for this, dbp tends to cling, so the cross over pieces cling a bit on each other.  Maybe it’s just me as a european not being used to dbp tho. 😀

A fba pattern piece is included for those who need it, which is always very nice! I made a size xl fba blended to a 2xl waist and hips. Sizing runs from xxs to 5xl. you can choose between long and short sleeves and a straight hem in the back or a curved one. I went for long sleeves and the curved hem.

The instructions are clear and it’s not too difficult. I’d say advanced beginner. The dolman isn’t too pronounced , it’s more of a dropped shoulder, I really like that. I’m  going to make another one in a different fabric for sure! 🙂

Als laatste in de kruisende voorpand toestanden, De Jenny Cross Front Tunic van 5oo4. Een redelijk aansluitende dolman kruisend voorpand ding. Als je de decoltee wat te ver vindt, bij het patroon zit een tanktop om eronder aan te doen. Dus 2 in 1 ;). Ik maakte deze uit dbp en ik moet zeggen dat ik dat niet ideaal vind. Dbp heeft de neiging wat aan elkaar te gaan hangen, dus de kruisende panden willen wat aan elkaar hangen. Misschien is het gewoon ook omdat ik als europeaan de stof niet zo gewoon ben :D.

Een fba patroondeel is inclusief voor degenen die het nodig hebben, wat altijd een pluspunt is. Ik maakte XL fba geblend naar een 2xl taille en heupen. Maten lopen van xxs tot 5xl. Je kan kiezen tussen lange en korte mouwen en een rechte of gebogen zoom achteraan. Ik koos de lange mouwen en de gebogen zoom.

De instructies zijn duidelijk en het is niet al te moeilijk. Ik zou zeggen gevorderde beginner. De dolman is ook niet overdreven, ‘t is eerder een verlaagde schouder wat ik leuk vind. Ik ga zeker nog is een andere maken in een andere stof! 🙂

Lola Pants

“She walked up to me and she asked me to dance

L-O-L-A Lola, lo lo lo lo Lola”

This song has been stuck in my head ever since I started testing these pants, heck I even made my bff name her new car Lola! 5oo4 designed this beautiful pants, Lola . They are high waisted, wide legged paper bag waist pants. There’s different lengths from shorts to full length. You can add the beltloops and bow or leave it if you prefer.

They are designed for woven or  for knit with 2 way stretch. I made mine in a very thin denim. I made a 2XL. The fit was spot on right away. Sizing runs from xxs to 5xl. The only thing I had to do is shorten for my inseam, but that’s a very normal alteration for me. They sew up very fast, one of those quicker to make then to wash patterns.

I really love em, they are extremely comfortable and right on trend for the season. The instructions are clear and I’d think a beginner van easily tackle these. I paired it with 1 of my Jessie’s , also from 5oo4. You can read my thoughts on Jessie here: Blog Jessie. They make a great combo imo. I’m sure I’ll be wearing these loads in fall!

Dit nummer zit al in mijn hoofd sinds de test voor deze broek begon, ik heb zelfs mijn bff zover gekregen haar nieuwe auto Lola te noemen lol! 5oo4 ontwierp deze prachtige broek, Lola.  De broek is hoog in de taille, heeft wijde pijpen en heeft een “paper bag” taille. Er zijn verschillende lengtes van short tot enkellengte. Je kan de riemlussen en strik toevoegen of niet als je dat niet leuk vindt.

Ze zijn ontworpen voor geweven stoffen of stretchstoffen met 2way stretch. Ik maakte de mijne uit een heel lichte denim. Ik maakte een 2XL. De pasvorm was direct perfect. De maten lopen van xxs to 5xl. Het enige dat ik moest aanpassen is de lengte, maar dat is een normale aanpassing voor mij. Ze zijn zeer snel klaar, ‘t is zo eentje dat sneller is om te maken dan om te wassen.

Ik vind ze echt heel tof, extreem comfortabel en helemaal in de mode voor dit seizoen. De instructies zijn duidelijk, ik zou denken dat dit prima lukt voor een beginner. Ik combineerde met 1 van mijn Jessie’s , ook van 5oo4. Je kan mijn gedachten over Jessie hier lezen:  Blog Jessie.  Het is een goed duo naar mijn mening. Ik ga deze zeker nog vaak dragen in de herfst.

Rosanna Tank & Dress

I got to test for 5 out of 4 Patterns again. The Rosanna is a tank / dress which you can also make as a swim top! Now I’m no big swimmer. Not drowning is my main accomplishment in that department, so I went for the dress. (For the record I can swim, I’m just not going to win any medals ;). ) Anyways Just as with Gloria this dress includes a FBA piece, which is especially exciting since this top has princessy seams, not quite a “normal” princess seam, but more like a cool insert at the side. I love it!

There’s 2 skirt options, half circle and full circle and both come in 4 lengths. I made the half circle in the dress length for both. The front neckline has 2 options, a high and low scoop, I went for the low scoop. There’s also the option to add a build in shelf bra, which is great for swimming, but I left it off for the dress. You can also use the bra as a “stand alone” item so you have a tankini.

Another option is a strappy back. Both a wide and a narrow strap. I cut 5 narrow straps for my floral one and made my own design! It’s a cool thing to have fun with! 🙂 Sizing runs from xxs to 5xl, with or without FBA. I made a 1xl FBA graded to a 2xl waist (no worries, the tutorial explains you how to specifically grade this bodice). Fits me like a glove!

With the blue one I had some fun with my cutting machine and I ended up putting a flower on my skirt. You can have fun too with the topstitching. I went all professional ahum and used me cover and white thread to match the flower. I love my new dresses and I hope you do too! 🙂

Ik mocht weer testen voor 5 out of 4 Patterns. De Rosanna is een tank / jurk, welke je ook kan maken als zwem top! Nu is mijn grootste overwinning ivm. zwemmen niet verdrinken, dus ik ging voor de jurk. (Voetnoot ik kan heus wel zwemmen, maar medailles zal ik niet winnen ;).) Iig, net als bij Gloria heeft deze jurk ook een patroondeel voor een volle buste. Helemaal tof, omdat de top prinsesachtige naden heeft en wie heeft zin om die zelf aan te passen he. Het is geen “normale” prinsessennaad, eerder coole inzetstukken aan de zijkant. Ik vind het helemaal top!

Er zijn 2 rok opties, halve cirkel en volle cirkelrok, beide komen in 4 lengtes. Ik maakte de halve cirkel in jurk lengte voor beide. De neklijn vooraan heeft 2 opties, een hoge ronde nek of een diepe. Ik maakte de diepe. Er is ook een optie om een beha erin te maken, wat top is om te zwemmen, maar ik liet het eraf voor de jurk. Je kan de beha ook apart gebruiken als tankini.

Een andere optie zijn de bandjes achteraan. Je hebt brede en smalle bandjes. Ik maakte 5 smalle bandjes en bedacht mijn eigen manier om ze erop te zetten! Leuk om is crea bea mee te zijn! 🙂 Maten lopen van xxs tot 5xl, met of zonder aanpassing voor volle buste. Ik maakte een 1xl volle buste en een 2xl taille (geen paniek, de instructies leggen je exact uit hoe dit te doen met dit lijfje). Past als gegoten!

Met de blauwe heb ik de scan n cut bovengehaald en een bloem gemaakt voor op de rok. Je kan ook leuk spelen met je topstitchen. Ik ging er helemaal los op met mijn cover en witte draad, zodat dat bij de bloem paste. Ik ben gek op mijn nieuwe jurken, hopelijk jullie ook! 🙂

Stella Romper, Shorts and Tank

Pants and shorts can be such a struggle for bigger sizes, so when I saw this testing call, I jumped aboard to test! The Stella Romper by 5 out of 4 Patterns is not only a romper, It’s a tank (with or without a flounce and some options for a strappy back), shorts, a bra and a romper all in 1 pattern! And it’s available for women and girls. I tested the shorts and the tank. I made a 2xl for both. Sizing runs from xxs to 5xl.

I chose the fold over waistband (to then not fold over :p) so It’s pretty high-rise that way, which I love! There’s pockets…again love! Both shorts and tank are easy to construct, instructions are clear. I used cotton jersey for both. You can make the tank with a shelfbra, ideal if you don’t want your bra to show (I obviously don’t care lol).

I’m sorry I look so frumpy on the pictures, it was such a hot and humid day when I took the pics, my hair is not liking it one bit lol. After these pictures I went for a walk with the dog and my new handbag, a black one, and the strap left black marks all over my new tank!!! I’m so hoping it’ll come off in the wash!

Broeken en shorten kunnen zo’n strijd zijn wanneer je een grotere maat hebt. Dus wanneer ik de oproep voor deze test zag, sprong ik aan boord. De Stella Romper van 5 out of 4 Patterns is niet alleen een romper. Het is ook een singlet (met een ruffle enopties voor een rug met bandjes), een short, een bralette en een romper, allemaal in 1 patroon! En het is beschikbaar voor dames en meisjes. Ik maakte een 2xl voor beide. Maten lopen van xxs tot 5xl.

Ik koos de brede tailleband die je kan omvouwen (om hem dan niet om te vouwen :p) dus ze zit erg hoog, maar dat vind ik heerlijk! Er zijn zakken…zalig! Zowel de short als de singlet zijn makkelijk ineen te zetten, de instructies zijn duidelijk. Ik gebruikte katoen tricot voor beide. Je kan de singlet ook maken met een bralette erin vast, ideaal als je geen behabandjes wil zien. (ik lig er overduidelijk niet wakker van lol)

Het spijt me trouwens dat ik er zo slonzig uitzie, het was zo warm en zo vochtig, mijn haar was in tropenmodus lol. Na deze foto’s ging ik op wandel met de hond en mijn nieuwe handtas, een zwarte, en de riem ging vreselijk af op mijn nieuwe top! Ik hoop maar dat het eruit gaat in de was!

Sew A Long Jessie Dag 7 & 8

En het is gelukt! We zijn aan de laatste dagen toegekomen. Het enige dat nog rest is zomen en dan een mooie foto nemen om in onze groep te posten en wie weet ben je dan overmorgen de winnaar! Sew A Long Jessie Dag 6

We zijn er bijna! Naai de zijnaden. Naai de zijnaad van de mouw en zet de mouw in. Makkelijk genoeg he! 🙂 Let er wel op dat je de achterkant van de mouw aan het achterpand bevestigd en de voorkant vooraan. Ik zet altijd een clip aan de achterkant van zodra ik geknipt heb en ik laat die daar tot ik de boven en onderkant geclipt heb aan het lijfje, zodat het zeker juist is. In het verleden heeft me dit wel is een tijdje werk met het tornmesje gekost omdat ik dat wel is fout had. Mij hebben ze niet meer zitten haha.

En dan kan je nu ook echt passen! Ik hoop dat je er blij mee bent!

Sew A Long Jessie Dag 5

Tijd om de rug af te werken vandaag! Je moet niet perse het patroon volgen voor de bandjes, je kan dat ook anders erop zetten als je creabea wil zijn. Ik vind het standaard wel leuk, dus het ze zoals het patroon aangezet. Bespaart denkwerk haha. Voor de racerback is het vooral belangrijk dat het mooi recht hangt, je wilt geen scheve race ;).

Ik heb de bandjes trouwens vastgeklemd met een groot formaat wonderclips. Ik vond dat handiger dan spelden, want mijn spelden zijn rommel en breken door zoveel lagen. Iemand tips trouwens voor goeie spelden? Liefst nog met een rond tip, zodat ze je stretch niet kapot doen?

Gloria Dress

I got to test the new Gloria by 5 out of 4 patterns . This test was awesome! We started it and after a few days it became clear we had a rather erm busty group of ladies. Rachelle, the designer, then decided to add a FBA piece instead of us all doing FBA’s on our own! So this pattern includes a FBA piece for a 1 inch FBA. How awesome is that! I really love her for doing this. Only a handful designers offer it and so many ladies (including myself) need it! Saves us all a lot of time!

The pattern comes in XXS to 5XL, with a regular bodice piece and a FBA bodice piece. I made a 1XL FBA, graded to a 2xl waist. There’s a lot of sleeve options, a regular closed sleeve in different lengths, a split sleeve in different lengths (which I used) and a sleeveless option. (the split sleeve will also fit Jessie ). You can also choose from a few different hemming options. From a short skater dress to a high low long dress. I made the long dress with a regular hem.

The fit on this dress is amazing! I’m seriously in love with the back there, not a wrinkle to be found, fits like a glove! I did shorten the bodice an inch, cause I’m rather short-waisted (yup I’m short-waisted and have short legs, how in the world I’m still 5’5″ is beyond me…does not compute lol) There are lengthen shorten lines so it was no biggy to do this. I used cl and I seriously adore this dress. I probably need a trillion more for this summer. The son of a friend already said we need to make it in white so we look like we came of the roman age. He now put that in my head. White, gold trims…yup I’m gonna need that! haha.

Ik mocht de nieuwe Gloria van 5 out of 4 patterns testen . Deze test was geweldig. We begonnen eraan en na een paar dagen werd het duidelijk dat de gemiddelde cupsize in de groep groot was. Rachelle, de ontwerpster besliste dan om een FBA (full bust adjustement) patroon deel toe te voegen in de plaats van dat wij dat allemaal apart zouden doen! Dus dit patroon heeft een FBA patroondeel voor een FBA van 2.5 cm. Hoe geweldig is dat! Ik hou echt van haar omdat ze dit heeft gedaan. Maar een paar ontwerpers bieden dit aan en zoveel dames (inclusief mezelf) hebben het nodig! Bespaart iedereen een hoop tijd!

Het patroon komt in de maten XXS tot 5XL, met een “normaal” patroondeel voor het lijfje en een FBA patroondeel. Ik maakte een 1XL FBA buste en een 2XL taille. Er zijn verschillende mouwopties, een gewoon gesloten mouw in verschillende lengtes en de open mouw (die ik gebruikte) in verschillende lengtes, ook mouwloos is een optie. (de open mouw past ook op Jessie ). Je kan ook kiezen tussen verschillende lengtes voor de rok, van een korte jurk tot een lange jurk met hoog/laag zoom. Ik maakte de langste versie met een normale zoom.

De pasvorm van deze jurk is geweldig! ik ben serieus verliefd op die achterkant, geen vouwtje te bespeuren, past perfect! Ik heb wel het lijfje met 2.5 cm verkort, want ik heb nogal een kort lijf (nou ja ik heb een kort lijf en korte benen, hoe ik in godsnaam 1m65cm ben gaat mij boven het hoofd…does not compute lol) Er staan markeringen waar je moet verlengen of verkorten, dus dat was makkelijk genoeg. Ik gebruikte katoentricot en ik ben echt gek op deze jurk. Ik heb er nog triljoenen meer nodig voor deze zomer. De zoon van een vriendin zei dat we deze jurk in het wit moeten maken en dat we dan wel romeinen lijken. Nu zit dat in mijn hoofd he, wit met een goud biesje…yup dat ga ik nodig hebben! haha
